Vacancy: Charity administrator and support worker – 14 hours per week.
12 month fixed term contract.
Birmingham Community Hosting (BIRCH) Network aims to support sanctuary seekers, refugees and other migrants through the hospitality of Birmingham residents.
We are looking for an admin and support worker to join our small team, to support existing staff with their current tasks and duties.
This role will include a wide range of administrative tasks and will be supervised by our Development Worker. The role will require working in a range of locations, including some home working, outreach work in asylum hotels and potentially hot desking from an office space in Digbeth. The post holder will need to be available on Monday afternoons to support some of our outreach work in Sutton Coldfield.
This is primarily an administrative role but will involve some face to face work with BIRCH volunteers and the sanctuary seekers we support. Therefore we are looking for someone who has strong administration skills, but who also has excellent communication skills and the ability to work with people from a wide range of cultures and backgrounds. This role will also include some support to the trustee Board, taking minutes and helping prepare paperwork for Board meetings.
The postholder will be working with our Development Worker to help administer our volunteer programme, support with fundraising activities and reports, maintaining and updating databases and other day-to-day operations for the charity. The postholder will also work with one of our practitioners who delivers outreach support to a hotel in Sutton Coldfield. This work will include distributing bus passes and SIM cards to sanctuary seekers and helping with some administrative and advocacy tasks.
We are looking for someone who is a team player and who is committed to supporting our work welcoming sanctuary seekers to Birmingham. We require someone who has proven experience of providing administrative support to a busy team within the charity/not-for-profit sector, be flexible, have excellent time management skills and be able to work on their own initiative. The successful candidate will be working across various projects therefore, they will need to be efficient, organised, with strong computer skills and a professional outlook. Speakers of additional languages (Arabic, Tigrinya, Omoro, Amharic) are particularly welcome.
